A certified translation (also called a sworn or court translation) in Croatia is produced by a permanent court interpreter (stalni sudski tumač) appointed by the president of a county or commercial court. The interpreter binds the translation to the original or a copy with a cord in the colours of the Croatian flag, signs it, and certifies it with an official stamp and a clause confirming that the translation fully corresponds to the source document.
Croatian authorities require this kind of translation when you submit a foreign document, and foreign institutions require it when you submit a Croatian one. We work with a network of court interpreters for more than 35 languages, so one request can cover the translation and, where needed, the apostille or legalisation as well.
Documents we translate most often
- civil status documents: birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates, certificates of citizenship, passports, driving licences
- criminal record certificates and proof of residence
- diplomas, school certificates and transcripts for jobs or recognition of foreign qualifications
- court judgments, divorce decrees, probate decisions
- contracts, powers of attorney, company register extracts, financial statements
- medical records, test results and discharge letters
Where certified translations are used
In Croatia: the police administration (residence and work permits, citizenship), registry offices (registering events that happened abroad, marriages), courts and notaries, universities and the Agency for Science and Higher Education, employers, banks and the tax administration.
Abroad: embassies and consulates, foreign ministries, universities and registries. Some countries also require an apostille on the interpreter's signature; we arrange that within the same order.
Is a scan enough?
A good scan or photo is enough for a quote and for many purposes. If the institution requires the translation to be bound to the original or to a certified copy, you send us the original by registered post or courier and we return it together with the translation. We can also obtain a notarised certified copy if needed.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a certified translation cost?
The price depends on the language pair, the length and type of the document, and the deadline. Send us a scan via the form or by email and you will receive an exact, no-obligation quote.
How long does a certified translation take?
It depends on the language and volume; the deadline is always stated in the quote. Short personal documents are usually ready within a few working days, and urgent translations are possible on request.
Is a Croatian certified translation valid abroad?
In most cases yes, but some countries also require an apostille or legalisation of the court interpreter's signature. We check the receiving institution's requirements before we start.
